ABOUT THE BURNING TREE PTA
The Burning Tree Elementary School PTA represents an effective partnership between school, home and the community.PTA volunteers, programs, and funds support BT staff and families, and enhance the MCPS curriculum. The PTA also advocates for issues that impact our children to the Board of Education and Montgomery County Council through our Whitman Cluster Group.
The Principal, teacher representatives, and PTA officers comprise the Board of Directors. The Burning Tree PTA Board of Directors has the honor and responsibility of protecting and upholding the purpose of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). The Board of Directors’ responsibilities also include:
- Encouraging parent, teacher and community involvement in the school and PTA and keeping the general membership abreast of PTA and school-related information.
- Conducting PTA business by making key decisions on the PTA budget and PTA programs and activities.
- Submitting an annual budget to the general membership for adoption and transacting necessary business in the intervals between PTA meetings.
- Planning and creating standing and special PTA committees which are beneficial to the BT community.
For a description of all board of directors postions, please either click here, or click on the specific position on the right hand side of this page.
Because those serving on the Board of Directors have such an important role, members make every effort to attend all PTA meetings (typically held the first Tuesday evening of the month) and all Board of Directors meetings (typically held the last Friday morning of the month) and are encouraged to attend as many PTA-related events as possible.
PTA meetings are typically held in the Media Center at Burning Tree on the first Tuesday of the month. Please refer to the school calendar for exact dates and times. Free, on-site childcare is provided for children 4 years old and older. Generally, a program of interest to the parent community is offered at every PTA meeting. The principal, members of the board of directors as well as committee chairs report on school news and events. The community is welcome, and parents are encouraged to participate in these discussions. Please note that only PTA members may vote on school-related issues. By contacting an board of directors member, any PTA member may request that an item be included for discussion on any PTA meeting agenda. Questions or concerns may also be raised as New Business during any PTA meeting.
